Suicidal Ideation Treatment
Learn more about suicidal ideation treatment at Conway Behavioral Health Hospital
Suicidal ideation is a term that refers to the presence of intrusive, pervasive thoughts about wanting to end one’s own life. When a person has these thoughts, it does not necessarily mean that he or she wants to follow through on the act. However, the longer they persist, the more at risk the person becomes for crossing the line between thought and action.
Suicidal thoughts can become all-consuming and can have a negative impact on all aspects of a person’s life. For this reason, it is extremely important that individuals who are battling suicidal ideation receive treatment so that they can address the underlying reasons for why the thoughts exist and learn how to better cope with and manage them in the future.
At Conway Behavioral Health Hospital, we recognize that making the decision to receive treatment can be intimidating when you are suffering from suicidal ideation. We know that coming to a point where you are willing to share your personal thoughts and feelings can be a challenge, and we want to make that experience as comfortable as possible. Our team of professionals will demonstrate nothing but compassion as we work to understand your needs and then develop a personalized treatment plan that will be ideal for you.
How to Help a Loved One
Helping a loved one or a family member get suicidal ideation treatment near Little Rock, Arkansas
Discovering that a loved one is suffering from suicidal ideation can be devastating, and it can be extremely difficult to know what you can do to help. The most important thing, however, is that you work towards helping your loved one come to accept the fact that he or she needs treatment, and then do all that you can to help them take the steps to do so.
If you have a family member or loved one who is suffering from suicidal ideation, please consider the following suggestions:
- Because suicidal ideation refers to thoughts that are occurring inside a person’s mind, it is impossible to know that someone is suffering from them unless he or she verbally tells you. However, there are some changes in behavior that may indicate that a person might be having such thoughts. Research these types of behaviors and see if any of them apply to your loved one.
- If your loved one verbally tells you that he or she is having these thoughts, take it seriously. Unfortunately, many people believe that when someone makes these types of comments, it is an attempt to gain attention. Most often, this is not the case. If your loved one is telling you that he or she is suffering from suicidal ideation, take comfort in the fact that he or she is willing to share with you, and do not dismiss it.
- Try to engage your loved one in an open and honest conversation. If he or she has told you about his or her thoughts, doing this will likely not be difficult. But if you have suspicions, and he or she has not openly expressed these thoughts, it can be a challenging situation to address. Approach your loved one with compassion. Express your concerns and give him or her the chance to freely share his or her feelings without receiving judgment.
- Research treatment centers that have programming that is specifically designed to help people who are suffering from suicidal ideation. Share the information you find with your loved one, and encourage him or her to look into taking advantage of the options available.
- Offer your ongoing support. If your loved one does enter a treatment program, make sure that you keep in contact with him or her as much as possible, and be open to attending family therapy sessions if they are offered. Knowing that you are there for encouragement and support can have a monumentally positive impact on your loved one’s ability to heal.
Why Consider Treatment
Why consider suicidal ideation treatment at our center
Denying yourself the opportunity to receive treatment can have countless negative consequences. Many people begin to isolate themselves from others, find it challenging to perform to expectation occupationally, and begin to participate in self-harming behaviors. Additionally, the presence of suicidal ideation can put a person at risk for abusing drugs and/or alcohol as a coping mechanism. Most devastatingly, ignoring the need for treatment often causes those suffering from these thoughts to make attempts at suicide.
Thankfully, however, suicidal ideation can be treated through appropriate mental health care. With effective treatment, you can learn to regain control over your thoughts and experience relief from suicidal ideation.

Group therapy:
Group therapy sessions are offered a minimum of four times per day and include psychoeducation groups, skills rehearsal groups, recreational groups, and process groups. Examples of the various topics that may be discussed during these groups include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Medication management
- Mindfulness
- Substance abuse
- Distress tolerance skills
- Adapting leisure skills
- Emotional regulation skills
Family therapy:
Because family support can be a crucial part of the healing process, we offer family therapy sessions once a week. Led by licensed therapists and counselors, these sessions provide you and your loved ones with time to work through the challenges you have experienced as a family, build a sense of unity, and learn how you can support one another moving forward. This can also serve as a time for your loved ones to learn more about suicidal ideation so that they can gain a better understanding of what you have experienced as a result of your symptoms.
Continuing Care
Continuing care after inpatient treatment for suicidal ideation at our hospital
Acute inpatient treatment is designed to be a short-term stabilization period. With the approximate length of stay being seven days, this form of programming is used to alleviate crises, provide immediate intervention for severe symptoms, initiate a medication management regimen when needed, and ultimately help you jumpstart your healing journey.
Due to the short-term nature of this programming, it is important for you to receive continuing care services once your inpatient stay has come to an end. In doing so, you will be able to practice the skills you learned while in acute care, continue to receive monitoring while in a less intensive environment, and have further support as you reintegrate back into your everyday life.
Upon admission into our program, your treatment team will immediately begin preparing a discharge plan that will be implemented once your inpatient stay is complete. This plan can include referrals to outside healthcare providers, support groups that may be of benefit to you, and contact information should you find yourself in need of crisis services in the future.
In choosing to come to Conway Behavioral Health Hospital, you can rest assured that you or your loved one will be provided with the utmost in quality and compassionate care. To learn more about our program, please contact us at your convenience.
